ZAPDD is committed to lobbying and advocating for the empowerment of parents with developmental disabilities, to create an enabling environment for the rights of inclusive society in Zanzibar.
The Zanzibar Association for People with Developmental Disability (ZAPDD) is a Non Governmental Organization established in 1997 by the parents of people with developmental disability. It was registered in 1998 under the Society Act No 6 of 19…... The organization was formulated for the purpose of promoting the welfare of the target group. Currently, the organization has 50 local branches and more than 1,000 members in both Unguja and Pemba island
1. To advocate and lobby for inclusive policies and legislation.
2. To create awareness on inclusion to the society at large and facilitate empowerment of parents and people with developmental disabilities
3. To initiate and protect the policies and the Constitution for the needs of the people with developmental disabilities.
4. To cooperate with the government and other stakeholders in preparations and operations of the policies that will involve the issues of the people with developmental disabilities.
5. To advocate and protect the rights of the people with developmental disabilities that includes, education, employment, protection, health and welfare.
6. To take reasonable measures to mobilize our people for their rights and other issues which involve the people with developmental disabilities.
7. To motivate the parents of, and the people with developmental disabilities to understand and protect their rights.
8. To establish the net work with other local and foreign institutions in order to exchange information and experience for the betterment of the people with developmental disabilities.
